Analyst, Tenure-Track Assistant Professor

The Department of Mathematics at Bryn Mawr College invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor position to begin July 1, 2011.

We are seeking an analyst for a tenure-track position. Candidates must have completed a doctorate in mathematics by the starting date and must show promise

in research and a serious commitment to undergraduate and graduate teaching. It is expected that the new faculty member be able to teach core courses in the

mathematics major, to supervise senior theses, and to contribute to the graduate analysis component in our graduate program. We welcome candidates with an applied

focus.

Inferring Network Controls, Postdoctoral Position

Applications are invited for a postdoctoral position at Duke University starting January 1, 2011. The position is for 1.5 calendar years with a possibility of renewal for an additional year. Salary and benefits are competitive and will be determined based on the candidate's background. The candidate will work under the supervision of Profs. John Harer (Mathematics) at Duke on a project funded by the Defense Threat Reduction Agency. The project is a joint effort with Professors Thomas Fink of the London Institute for Mathematical Sciences and Guido Caldarelli of the University of Rome. The primary goal is the study of self-healing and adapting networks, and how they respond to different types of attacks. Special focus will be on weighted networks and modeling of dynamics on networks. An ideal candidate will have a strong background in complex networks and stochastic processes, but candidates with either background are encouraged to apply. The candidate will work in the Department of Mathematic at Duke and be expected to travel periodically to London and Rome for collaboration. Ursinus College invites applications for a tenure-track position at the assistant professor level beginning Fall 2011. PhD in Statistics or a closely related field is required by Sept. 1, 2011. Preference will be given to candidates with interest or experience in Biostatistics. Excellence in teaching, evidence of a strong and ongoing research program and commitment to working in a liberal arts setting, including supervision of undergraduate research, are essential. The successful candidate will develop a strong research program and teach five courses per year (3/2 teaching load), including participation in the interdisciplinary freshman seminar. Responsibilities also include interaction with students through research projects and advising.

The Mathematics Institute (www.math.unibe.ch) at the University of Bern, Switzerland, is inviting applications for a postdoc position in the area of numerical analysis and scientific computing for partial differential equations. The position will be funded for 12 months, and some options for an extended stay might be available.

Applicants should have obtained their PhD just recently. Particular consideration will be given to candidates with a strong analytical and computational background in finite element methods.

German language skills are not required, however, candidates should have good communication skills in English, both oral and in writing. Salary is in accordance with the rates of the Swiss National Science Foundation. The starting date is flexible. Applications will be considered on a rolling basis until the position is filled.
